[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Young people from across Staffordshire are getting the opportunity to take part in exciting theatre performances exploring local stories about WWI.
The War Bride is a an evocative piece focused on the First World War which tells story of love, loss, comradeship and ultimately hope. The production features dynamic visuals, along with the incredible War Bride costume designed by Anna Lewis – all combined with physical choreographed performance set to an emotive underscore.
Young people will get the chance to take part in costume workshops, learn about the history of WWI and then join actors in the final performances.
Symbolic Costume
The War Bride costume is symbolic. A long train covered in letters, poppies and photos of soldiers.
The War Bride stands silently as a monument to War. Two young ‘pals’ volunteer together, train together, journey together to the theatre of War
Out of the silence the sound of a whistle and a day that will change their lives forever. Following the darkness – light, a child plays with a paper bird, hope takes flight.
EMOTIVE THEMES
Themes explored in the workshops include underage recruits, food shortages, miners on the Western Front, the military training camps on Cannock Chase, nurses and the changing role of women during the war.
Gill Heath, Cabinet Member for Communities at Staffordshire County Council said:
“This is a great production that will give young people a unique insight into the First World War and its impact on people’s lives.
It’s important that young people know about WWI and what legacy it had on local communities.”
Staffordshire County Council’s Archives & Heritage Service will be working with Imagineer Productions to bring the event to the county following a successful bid to Arts Council England.
