[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As an annual alternative to Pantomime, the New Vic Theatre in Newcastle Under Lyme will be marking the spot with Treasure Island as its seasonal family show this Christmas.
Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel will be fully transformed into a thrilling on stage tale of adventure set on the high seas, featuring a treasure trove of live music, comedy antics and parrot puppetry, buccaneers and buried gold, epic sword fights – and a bevvy of rum guzzling pirates.
The show will be adapted and directed by New Vic theatre’s Artistic Director Theresa Heskins and run from Saturday 18 November 2017 – Saturday 27 January 2018.
Supporting her to bring the swashbuckling adventure to life will the same creative team behind previous successful family favourites staged at the venue, including The Snow Queen, The Borrowers and The Hundred and One Dalmatians.
Of course this production will provide a full 360 degree re-telling of the tale, performed ‘in-the-round’ on the New Vic stage. Just make sure you book a seat out of line of the cannonballs!
Theresa Heskins, who is tasked with bringing the story to the stage, said: “Plays that speak to audiences across the generations makes for my favourite kind of theatre. Knowing that so many children will experience their first taste of the magic and wonder of theatre by coming along makes this time of year all the more special to the New Vic. The great thing about theatre-in-the-round is that the audience feels swept up in the action and this year we’re going for out-and-out adventure.
