[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The grounds of Stafford Castle are this summer transformed into the remote royal castles at Inverness and Dunsinane, setting the scene of a hellish eleventh century Scotland, just as terrible murder, guilt and paranoia is about to erupt.

Macbeth being staged as part of the annual and widely anticipated Stafford Festival Shakespeare, marks a darker move for the creative team behind previous successes at the castle.  This time bringing one of Shakespeare’s most famous and gruesome pieces to Staffordshire audiences.

This powerful play dramatises the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake.  And as director Clare Prenton explains in this interview, she is hellbent on keeping the play’s Scottish roots, very much front and centre, and the tone deliciously amoral and devilishly dark.  We can’t wait.

Something wicked this way comes to Stafford.  Macbeth at Stafford Castle, Thursday 28th June – Saturday 14th July 2018.  Make sure you don’t miss it.

WHAT’S IT ABOUT

As the warrior general Macbeth revels in his victory over the Lords rebellious to King Duncan’s Crown, he is greeted by three weird sisters who through some devilish witchcraft prophesise his own ascent to the seat of Scottish power…

Glimpsing this future foretold, Macbeth and his Lady wife plot a murderous scheme to realise their naked ambitions and secure a royal legacy.

But “blood will have blood” and soon Scotland is plunged back into open rebellion as the toll of dark deeds begin to weigh heavy on the new King and Queen. As his enemies circle, Macbeth realises the tragic futility of his actions before he is eventually slain and order returned to Scotland once more.

DID YOU KNOW…

In the backstage world of theatre, some believe that the play is cursed, and will not mention its title aloud, referring to it instead as “The Scottish Play“. Over the course of many centuries, the play has attracted some of the most renowned actors to the roles of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. It has been adapted to film, television, opera, novels, comics, and other media.

SHOUD YOU SEE IT?

Yes, yes, yes.  This is a must see piece of professional outdoor theatre. The setting of Stafford Castle is PERFECT for this production, and is sure to conjure up the right atmospgere for this most famous of Shakespeare’s works. You really shouldn’t miss it.
