Leek Arts Centre snaffles theatre show from London

A theatre show for younger children comes to the Foxlowe in January after a 62-performance Christmas season run at London’s Unicorn Theatre.

The Wolf, the Duck and the Mouse is a stage adaptation of the brilliantly subversive picture book which finds joy and friendship in the darkest and most unusual of places, written and illustrated by Mac Burnett and Jon Klassen.

It’s aimed at 3-7 year olds.

The show is a collaboration between London’s leading theatre for young people, Unicorn Theatre, and New Perspectives Theatre Company.

“I’ve known the work of both companies for some time, and Perspectives brought their adaptation of Kaurismaki’s film ‘The Man without a Past’ to Leek a few months ago”, says Michael Quine from the Foxlowe. “So it seemed just right to book the show after its London run.”

 

The show come to the Foxlowe as part of the Live&Local programme. This energetic touring network handles touring shows over 7 counties, including Staffordshire and the Foxlowe Arts Centre is now in its 4th year of association with Live&Local.

The show is being staged in Leek on Thursday 23 January, 5.30pm.

One day Mouse is gobbled up by a wolf. ‘Oh woe’ says Mouse, who fears this must be the end. But then we discover Duck, who was, until Mouse arrived, taking a nap.

As it turns out, it’s pretty nice living inside the belly of the beast with a new friend. There’s delicious food, dancing and – better still – no more fear of being eaten!

Meanwhile, outside in the forest, things aren’t quite as rosy for Wolf who is being stalked by a hunter.
