Staffordshire site specific theatre company, Greenhouse Theatre Project has announced that it has been chosen as New Vic Theatre’s Associate Artist for 2019 in a drive to help support and strengthen the creative industry of North Staffordshire.
Over the next year, the New Vic in Newcastle under Lyme will work with the Stoke-on-Trent based theatre company as part of its artistic development programme, The Kiln, which nurtures the development of independent artists and companies with the aim of building on the arts sector of North Staffordshire.
The partnership will see the New Vic support GreenHouse by providing mentorship from senior members of the New Vic team in business planning, marketing and fundraising. The yearlong association will also provide opportunities to observe work, rehearsals and administrative processes, as well as material resources, including access to meeting and rehearsal and development space.
ABOUT GREENHOUSE THEATRE PROJECT
GreenHouse Theatre Project UK is a Staffordshire based site-specific theatre company creating innovative theatre in unexpected places. With a love of story telling and a passion for the local community, they strive to make theatre that engages, excites and empowers.
The company was originally co-founded in in the US in 2011, by Artistic Director Emily Adams, who moved to the states after studying theatre at Aberstwyth University and touring nationally across the UK
There she co-founded her own site-specific theatre company, GreenHouse Theatre Project with Elizabeth Braaten Palmieri, to perform and produce classical, new works and experimental theatre with an emphasis on artistic collaboration; promoting local artists, businesses and spaces.
Emily later returned to the UK and joined forces with director and musician Rebecca Taylor to create the British version of GreenHouse Theatre, and set up shop in Stoke-on-Trent.
Creating innovative theatre in unexpected places and placing community engagement at the heart of their productions, GreenHouse aims to introduce non theatre attenders to a world of exciting storytelling.
The company’s first official UK performance took place in May 2018 when original piece, Dark Side of the Moon: The Mary Shelley Project, was performed over three sell-out nights in Hanley’s Bethesda Chapel.
They are now dedicated to producing more site-specific theatre and to working with some of the best creative talent in North Staffordshire.

MORE ABOUT GREENHOUSE THEATRE PROJECT
The company was founded by Artistic Director Emily Adams. She studied Theatre at Aberystwyth University before touring nationally across the UK. She has since worked with numerous theatre companies including Riding Lights (York), Chickenshed (London) and The Contact Theatre (Manchester) and performed in a variety of venues including Belmarsh Prison, York Minster Cathedral and The Royal Albert Hall, London.
In 2010, Emily moved to the US where she co-founded her own site-specific theatre company, GreenHouse Theatre Project with Elizabeth Braaten Palmieri.
During this time, Emily performed, directed and wrote for the company including performances of The Three Sisters, Macbeth, Tartuffe, Romeo and Juliet and an original version of The Nutcracker.
Emily has returned to the UK and is excited to launch the British sister company of GreenHouse Theatre Project. She looks forward to producing more site-specific theatre and working with some of the best creative talent in the Midlands and North West.
Helping her to acheive this is Co-Artistic Director Rebecca Taylor. As well as being an accomlished theatre director, Becky is also a professional musician and has composed scores for numerous theatre companies and frequently plays in her own band, Taylor and the Mason.
