A funding programme aimed at theatre makers is now open for applications, and offering from £500 to £5000 to help you develop your career in the theatre and performing arts industry.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Do you make theatre?  Have a burning ambition to write a play or see it stage?  Need that special piece of equipment to help you on your way in a theatre or performing arts career?

Well if so a splendid funding programme aimed at theatre makers is now open for applications, and offering from £500 to £5000 to help you develop your career in the theatre and performing arts industry.

The future of theatre depends on young people. They are the theatre makers and theatre goers of tomorrow.

The MGCfutures Bursary Programme (Round 2) is guiding and supporting the theatre makers of the future and is now open for applications which offers between £500 and £5,000 to theatre makers across the country, from producers funding workshops, to prop makers who need tools, to designers in need of computer software.

This is the second round of the programme – and the first round of the programme saw 17 people and companies awarded bursaries, ranging from producers to performance poets. Check out the video for case studies.

British Theatre Director Michael Grandage MBE, who’s company runs the programme said:

“It’s vital for us as a charity to actively support the next generation of theatre-makers, especially in a time of great financial uncertainty within the arts.”

He went on to say: “We’re very proud of the recipients of our inaugural bursaries, who come from a diversity of disciplines across the theatre world. As we open our second round, we look forward to engaging with more brilliant young artists.”

What kinds of things can get funded

Following a succesful first round of funding last year, the second round of MGCfutures’ Bursary Programme is now open for applications. They are interested in how they can help you develop your career in the industry. In the past, bursaries have been used for all sorts of projects, for example:

  • A director or producer who needs help towards funding a workshop
  • A prop maker or milliner who needs help to buy tools for their work
  • A designer who needs to invest in a computer assisted design programme or workshop space.
  • A playwright needing funding to take their work to the next level
